Brexit Comments By Irish PM Help Boost Euro And Pound – 10 October, 2019
Optimism in progress between the U.S. and China’s trade talks kept the yen modest while the euro and pound got a boost from comments by the Irish Prime Minister. After a 2% jump, the pound was at a two week high versus the greenback , its highest daily gain in seven months, when comments by Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar alluded to the possibility of a Brexit deal coming into place by the scheduled end of October divorce date. Sterling last stood at $1.2431, rising as high as $1.2469 earlier in the session. The British currency gained against the euro, reaching a two week high of 0.8831 pound per euro. The euro rose to $1.1007 against the dollar, while the yen shed roughly 0.45%. The dollar index last stood at 98.709. The offshore yuan was trading at 7.105 yuan per dollar.
