Debate Stabilizes Dollar But Loses For The Week – 22 October, 2020
The dollar was slightly higher after the U.S. presidential debate having weathered a tough week after dipping to the yen and euro. The greenback was 0.1% higher against a basket of major currencies, just above a seven-week low hit earlier in the week, but not enough to recover it from the 0.7% drop for the week. The safe haven yen was 0.2% higher to 104.70 per dollar, its biggest weekly gain since September. The euro fell 0.1% to $1.800, and the onshore yuan last stood at 6.6828 per dollar, just below a 27-month high. Sterling fell by 1.2% to $1.30, and the New Zealand dollar was 0.1% lower but still managed a 1% gain for the week.
