Dollar Near Six Week-High on Fresh Virus Fears – 21 September, 2020
The dollar made gains as fresh virus fears and stimulus delays had investors looking to the safe-haven currency. The dollar index was strong against a basket of six major currencies, floating just below a six-week high at 93.519. The yen edged slightly higher against the greenback at 104.57 per dollar. The Australian dollar recovered to $0.7223 after a comment on the possibility of a negative rates policy by a senior central banker. The euro was last trading at $1.1768, sterling is balancing at $1.2822 on the possibility of renewed restrictions for virus control, and the yuan was 0.1% higher at 6.7880 per dollar.
