Dollar Steady Despite Growing Virus Deaths – 6 February, 2020
Hopes that economic impact from the coronavirus coupled with strong U.S privacy polls helped the dollar stand firm. Against the yen, the dollar reached a two week high to 109.87 yen and just below a one week high reached overnight against the euro at $1.0994. The death toll since the virus outbreak has claimed a total of 563 lives, having reached its highest daily increase when it killed 73 people on Wednesday. The virus has affected everything from the Lunar New Year celebrations to the price of oil, with long term effects on the global economy remain to be seen.
