Gold Slightly Higher On WHO Comments – 6 January, 2022
Gold was hovering just above a two week low it hit the previous session after the chief of the World Health Organization (WHO) said the Omicron variant cannot be considered “mild”. Spot gold was 0.2% higher at $1,791.73 per ounce, while US gold futures was up 0.1% to US$1,791.70 per ounce. The precious metal is on track for its worst weekly fall since late November, down roughly 2%. WHO officials said on Thursday that though the Omicron variant of COVID-19 is seemingly a less severe disease than the Delta variant, it should not be categorized as mild.
