Investors Appetite For Risk Move Them Away From Dollar – 30 December, 2019

As the end of the year approaches, investors moved away from the dollar in search for riskier assets, causing it to hit a three week low and dip against the yen. Just above a Dec 12 low of 108.74, the greenback was trading at 108.77 yen, on track for a third session of losses in a row. Against a basket of six major currencies, the dollar index last stood at 96.728. Optimism over phase one trade talks between the U.S. and China helped the Australian and New Zealand dollars hit five month highs, while the offshore yuan reached a three week high last trading at 6.9780. The euro also managed some gains, reaching a 4 1/2 month high at $1.121, and sterling last stood at $1.3114.
