Pound Breaks Losing Streak Against Dollar – 24 December, 2019
The Christmas holiday left the dollar mostly steady against the euro as trading quieted down. The British pound, however, broke its five day losing streak against the greenback, gaining 0.2% to $1.2959. Fears that a trading cutoff left many worried chaos would break out ahead of the deadline causing the currency to dip earlier in the week. Against the dollar, the euro slipped 0.02%, while the dollar index gained 0.02% against six major currencies. The Australian dollar was unchanged, just below a five month high against the greenback, further solidifying optimism of a possible trade agreement between the U.S. and China. The offshore yuan dipped to 7.0026.
