Sterling Has Brief Moment of Recovery – 20 August, 2019

Sterling had a brief moment of recovery, gaining against both the dollar and the euro on comments from German chancellor Angela Merkel about possible future solutions between the European Union and Britain. Against the dollar, the pound jumped up 0.7% to as high as $1.2180 before settling at $1.2125. Sterling gained 0.4% against the euro for the day to settle at 91.015 pence. A demand from Prime Minister Boris Johnson to reopen the Brexit divorce deal from the European Union was shot down by the bloc.
